Virtual Gastric Band Hypnotherapy - What Is It? - IT’S DEFINITELY NOT A DIET!!
The Virtual Gastric Band Programme was developed by Hypnotherapist Sheila Granger. It is a potentially life changing treatment which is conducted over a four to six week period and consists of four one-hour sessions designed to bring about permanent change in your eating habits. You will also be provided with support MP3 recordings which will reinforce the treatment both during the programme and afterwards.
How does it work?
The programme is a combination of the concept of a ‘virtual’ gastric band & clinical hypnotherapy. It is a non-surgical technique using advanced hypnosis to retrain you to be satisfied with smaller amounts of food. It positively changes your eating habits and attitude to food, giving safe, predictable results. The clinical hypnotherapy convinces the brain that the stomach is full after an adequate level of food consumption and that there is no need for more.
The programme is not a short- term fix, it allows you to eat what you want but in smaller portion intake. This means that you won’t feel deprived and therefore gives you a long- term solution to weight control. The treatment works by helping you to permanently change your eating and lifestyle habits by communicating with the subconscious mind.
An actual surgical gastric band reduces the size of the stomach and may achieve the same results but the Virtual Gastric Band can be undertaken quickly and privately, without long waiting lists, large financial costs and with no risks or need for ongoing medical treatment.

How was the programme developed?
Sheila Granger was working as a hypnotherapist and realized that 80% of her clients were coming to see her for weight control. Her current system was working quite well but she decided to include the Virtual Gastric Band into her existing weight control programme.
To trial the effectiveness of this technique Sheila invited volunteers to take part in a free trial. She was inundated with volunteers but chose 25 people of different shapes, sizes, age ranges and gender and treated them in a group setting. Because this was a less personalized way of working Sheila envisaged a success rate of approximately only 40%.
However, after seeing the group for just three one hour sessions she was amazed and thrilled to record that they lost over 14 stones between them in only three weeks! All but one reported a significant change in their eating habits!
Since this time the programme has helped many clients to lose weight and Sheila’s aim is to see the NHS refer people for hypnotherapy weight control, allowing all to benefit and addressing the UK’s increasing obesity problem.
One of the reasons that people fail to achieve weight loss is emotional or comfort eating. We don’t always eat to satisfy hunger, sometimes we also reach for food to deal with stress, unwanted feelings such as sadness, loneliness or when we’re bored. This type of habit can be difficult to change, especially as after eating we feel guilty and then a vicious circle is created. We feel down so we eat, then the guilt sets in. Because we feel even worse the temptation is to eat more to make ourselves feel better and then there's more guilt and so the cycle continues.
To deal with emotional/comfort eating and change this unwanted behaviour pattern for good a session of RTT (Rapid Transformational Therapy) may be advised in addition to this VGB Programme. RTT includes effective techniques to break this habit, enabling you to fully benefit from the programme and if you follow the guidelines you will attain your weight loss goals.
How much weight will I lose?
The average weight loss is 3-6 lbs in the first week and normally 1-2 lbs each week after that. This will vary from person to person.
