Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) / Tapping

A Gentle Yet Powerful Mind–Body Approach to Emotional Healing

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), often known as “tapping,” is a highly effective mind-body therapy that helps release emotional distress, limiting beliefs, and even physical symptoms by working with the body’s energy system.

It is sometimes described as a psychological form of acupressure/acupuncture — but without needles. Instead, gentle tapping is applied to specific acupressure (energy) points on the face and upper body while focusing on a specific issue.

EFT works on both the mind and the body, helping to calm the nervous system, reduce emotional intensity, and rebalance the energy system so you can feel relief quickly and naturally.

What Is EFT/Tapping?

EFT is an evidence-informed therapeutic approach that combines:

  • Acupressure (tapping on energy points)

  • Modern psychology

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Emotional processing

When we experience stress, trauma, or overwhelming emotions, the body can hold onto that experience. Over time, these unresolved emotions may show up as:

  • Anxiety

  • Phobias

  • Low confidence

  • Emotional triggers

  • Chronic stress

  • Limiting beliefs

  • Physical tension or discomfort

EFT helps to clear the emotional charge connected to these experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming.

You still remember the event — but it no longer feels intense, triggering, or painful.

What Can EFT/Tapping Be Used For?

Because EFT works on unresolved emotional stress, it can be helpful for a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and overthinking

  • Phobias and fears

  • Trauma and past experiences

  • Confidence and self-worth

  • Dating and relationship blocks

  • Limiting beliefs

  • Emotional triggers

  • Stress and overwhelm

  • Performance anxiety

  • Weight and emotional eating patterns

  • Physical symptoms linked to stress

EFT addresses the underlying emotional cause rather than just managing symptoms.

How Does it Work?

When something upsetting happens, it can create a disruption in the body’s energy system and activate the stress response. Negative emotions are often linked to memories, and every time the memory is triggered, the emotional response is reactivated.

EFT works by:

  1. Tuning into the issue (emotion, belief, memory, physical symptom)

  2. Gently tapping on specific energy points

  3. Calming the nervous system

  4. Rebalancing the body’s energy response

As the energetic disturbance clears, the emotional intensity reduces. Clients often say things like:

  • “It feels insignificant now.”

  • “It seems like such a long time ago.”

  • “It doesn’t bother me anymore.”

This shift happens because the brain and body are no longer reacting in the same way.

What Happens in a Session?

EFT sessions are calm, collaborative, and empowering.

During a session, we will:

  • Identify the specific issue you want to work on

  • Gently explore the root of the emotional response

  • Use structured tapping sequences while you focus on the issue

  • Monitor emotional intensity as it reduces

  • Reframe and install more supportive beliefs

You remain fully present and in control at all times.

The tapping is gentle and painless, using your fingertips on specific points on the face, head, and upper body.

Many clients experience noticeable shifts within one session.

The Benefits of EFT/Tapping

  • Safe and gentle

  • Drug-free

  • Painless

  • Can produce fast results

  • Long-lasting change

  • Can be used as a self-help tool

  • No equipment needed

  • Suitable for adults and children

EFT is known for how quickly it can reduce emotional intensity compared to many traditional approaches.

EFT works beautifully on its own as a powerful therapeutic approach.

It also complements other modalities I offer, including hypnotherapy, RTT & EMDR.

Because EFT regulates the nervous system and reduces emotional intensity, it can:

  • Prepare you for deeper subconscious work

  • Strengthen belief change during RTT

  • Support trauma processing alongside EMDR

  • Help integrate changes after hypnotherapy

Using these approaches together allows us to work on conscious, subconscious, emotional, and energetic levels — creating deeper and more lasting transformation.

Is EFT Right for You?

If you’re open to trying something slightly different from traditional talking therapy — but highly effective — EFT may be an excellent option.

You don’t need to “believe” in it for it to work.

You simply need to be willing to tune into the issue and allow your system to rebalance.

If you’d like to experience how EFT can help you feel calmer, more confident, and give you a great way to balance emotions, the best thing is to book a discovery call with me.

In this brief chat I can find out a bit more about you and what you’re wanting help with, explain the process and  answer any questions you may have and if we decide EFT is suitable for you at this time, we can book you in!

EFT can be done in-person if you’re in London and are able to get to me OR on Zoom if you’re further way or it’s more convenient. On Zoom or in-person, EFT is just as effective.
